"It Was a Blessing To Help"

Emily Bowman, who served in Karamoja, Uganda for one month, shares about her experience on the field:

I’d like to say it was life-changing. The experience was unlike anything I’ve ever done before. Living among a culture of people on the mission compound and the surrounding area was so completely different yet such an amazing experience. I am so thankful to the Lord that I had this opportunity and could serve in some capacity.

Most of my time was spent assisting Tina DeJong with teaching the missionary children. With all the transitions happening at that time, I was able to fill in wherever was needed. I taught the kids math and science in the morning and led them in PE later in the day. I also helped with babysitting the youngest baby. We did lots of crafts together and I got to know them all personally. It was a blessing to be able to help take care of some very precious children with kind hearts, desiring to learn.

While I was there, I was greatly blessed to participate in the mission church, team worship, multiple weekly studies, and various times of fellowship with the other missionaries in Nakaale. I hope that I was as much of a blessing to them as they were to me.

Meeting the local people was so incredibly fascinating and humbling. I met many women who showed me the true meaning of living for the Lord and following him, regardless of the hardship of their lives. Women like Joyce, Loope, Sarah, and more.

I will always cherish the time I had and already miss the people there. I pray that God will give me wisdom to know what his will is for me in the future regarding missions!
