Team Photo CROPPED - English for Kids - St Georges, Quebec, Summer 2012During the summers of 2012 and 2013, I spent one week in Quebec helping at an English for Kids Camp in Saint-Georges de Beauce. Our team from the US helped the members of a Christian Reformed church (Église Chrétienne Réformée de Beauce) with their annual camp for children. Some of the children attending this camp come from Christian families or attend the host church, but most come from un-churched families, sent by parents only interested in them learning English and having fun. Knowing this, we saw these children as a true mission field and this camp the channel into their hearts. The week at camp was full and busy. Whether in the kitchen preparing meals, the classroom co-teaching the third-graders, or the parking-lot throwing hoops with the teenagers, there was a job for everyone. Early into the week, we learned as a team how to work together and work efficiently. We got to know the children and developed friendships that just made everything go smoother. The children, of all ages, enjoyed the week and the many projects and activities included. Some of the things we did include crafts, games, Bible study and teaching, skits, singing, and a devotional. It was a blessing to be able to openly and sincerely explain the Bible and the gospel message to these children. They memorized Biblical songs and Scripture verses eagerly and excitedly (for the most part!).I am so thankful I have had the opportunity to go on these two trips. It was a good experience for me and prepared me for what God had in store for me this past month when I went to El Salvador for two weeks on a mission trip. The Lord grew me while helping in Quebec and helped me to step outside my comfort zone. It was hard to help teach classes. It was hard to interact with the children. It was hard to be tired all the time. But the Lord helped me through and I am so glad I went. I learned much about the needs of Quebec and also more about myself.Costume - skit CROPPEDIf you are thinking of possibly going on a short term mission trip for the first time, I would highly recommend you consider this ministry. I really appreciated the dynamics of this camp and our responsibilities. Whether going by yourself or with some friends, you will be warmly welcomed and encouraged by the church members in Quebec and excited for the upcoming week. If you choose to go, I do not think you will regret your decision.I hope you will consider joining next year’s team to share the gospel and love of Christ with the lost lambs in Quebec. God bless you and your endeavors!
