Ready to Share a Powerful Gospel

Ready to Share a Powerful Gospel

One helpful aspect of the School of Evangelism is that the teaching is accompanied by daily evangelism. This past week at the Boardwalk Chapel we saw guests and staff for the summer assemble, digging into the Word, studying evangelism in the theoretical and the practical. Some who came are experienced evangelists, and others are novices.

A Time of Spiritual Growth in the Ugandan Wilderness: Missionary Associate Jed Homan

Some have likened Karamoja to the “Wild West” or referred to it as the “Ugandan Wilderness.” In this region there is a great need for the light of the Gospel to shine forth in the area’s culture and in the hearts of its people. Situated in the middle of it all is the OPC Karamoja Mission Station. The OPC Mission Station in Karamoja, Uganda has been in operation, ministering to the locals since 2000. As would be expected, living in a wilderness is not easy—not on missionaries and certainly not on the equipment and systems they depend on every day.

A Kingdom Investment Worth Making

A Kingdom Investment Worth Making

Many of us do not know where to start with the idea of bringing the gospel to a place we have never been. Cross-Cultural Missions Training (CCMT) is a one-month program that takes young men and women aged 18+ through two weeks of Bible teaching and cultural and language immersion followed by two weeks of service in a foreign context. This month is meant to provide an opportunity to see and to experience what it means to go and make disciples of all nations.

“I’d like to say it was life-changing. The experience was unlike anything I’ve ever done before. Living among a culture of people on the mission compound and the surrounding area was so completely different yet such an amazing experience. I am so thankful to the Lord that I had this opportunity and could serve in some capacity.”

Evangelism Everywhere

Evangelism Everywhere

“Gospel-sharing starts right where you are, and it goes out from there. Evangelism isn’t reserved for far-away mission trips—evangelism should be a part of the Christian’s daily life,” says Tyler Detrick, pastor of Light of the Nations OPC in Dayton, Ohio. This convicting statement is not mere sentiment for Pastor Detrick but is strongly supported by his demonstrated passion for and work in the area of evangelism and missions.

The Boardwalk Chapel: Teaching through Reaching

The Boardwalk Chapel: Teaching through Reaching

As each summer day comes to its end in Wildwood, New Jersey, the sun fades and is almost seamlessly replaced by twinkling fluorescent bulbs all along the boardwalk. Running the length of Wildwood beach, the boardwalk attracts vacationers with two-and-a-half miles of enticingly aromatic food, boisterous music, carnival games, and intriguing storefronts. Stepping out on the boardwalk ushers a tidal wave of sensational entertainment upon its entrant. Yet, situated in the midst of it all lies one storefront that does not fit in with the rest. Above its awning, a light shines on a simple sign that reads “Boardwalk Chapel”.

The Boardwalk Chapel: A Unique Experience

“The teaching at the Chapel is definitely Gospel-centered. It’s speaking the truth to others, and the need to speak it in love. Not argumentative, not from a place above them because we’re sinners just like they are. The boardwalk is another awesome experience for the rest of the teens.”

E4K in Quebec: Great is Thy Faithfulness!

E4K in Quebec: Great is Thy Faithfulness!

Sunday afternoon a lite rain passed over our house. A few minutes later, our son Kaelan called out, “There is a rainbow!” What a nice way to end our English for Kids Bible camp about Noah and the rainbow. When we went outside to look, there were in fact two rainbows! There is story behind the two rainbows. During our second summer in Quebec City, I was quite discouraged. Learning French was going very slow. Learning about the resistance of the Quebec people to the Church and the Gospel made me realise that evangelism would be even slower. The hearts are very hard. Discouraged, I went outside just as a storm had passed by. As the sun began to shine, I saw in the sky above Quebec City not one, but two rainbows! Reminded of God’s faithfulness to his promises, even his promises to preserve for himself a people from every nation, I committed myself to serve the mission in Quebec. Twenty-two years later, the double rainbows over Quebec City encourage me once again to pursue this mission. Thanks for interceding for me, for our family and for God’s people in Quebec!

A Short-Term Trip to South Sudan, Again!

One of the reasons for the visit to Juba in South Sudan was to talk to the brothers in the Sudanese Reformed Church (SRC) about the possibility of having their young men trained at the OPC’s Knox School of Theology, established and run by the OP Uganda Mission in Mbale.  Knox is a 12 hour bus-ride from Juba.  Jackson, the director of Knox, plans to build “Juba Lodge”, a dormitory which will enable young men to come from South Sudan, stay, and study for a semester at a time.  The hope is that some of these young men will come from the refugee population, giving them a way to move forward with their education, that upon completion they might return and bring spiritual nourishment to many hungry souls in the IDP camps as ordained ministers of the Sudanese Reformed Church.

OPC Short-Term Missions is Making A Comeback in 2022

No doubt you’ve noticed the near-depleted list of short-term mission opportunities the past two years due to COVID restrictions. But praise the Lord, things seem to be changing and we’re encouraged! According to the travel site, Kayak, as of November 24, 2021, the borders of five countries are now open, with no restrictions. 166 countries’ borders are open, with limited restrictions, and only 53 countries’ borders remain closed.Maybe you have been waiting in the wings for restrictions to lift in order to serve in an international short-term missions’ capacity. This may be just the time for you to jump into—or back into—short-term missions service.  Missionaries, serving near and far, have spent much of these past two years without the encouragement and blessing of regular visitors—vital for their health and the success of the mission.
