To Share Our Hope
I’m no different than the people I’m evangelizing to. I’m not better than them, I’m just as sinful as everyone else. But that’s why we do it—I want people to have the same hope I have.
Good Fellowship, Good Discipleship, Great Evangelism
Emily Batten is a member of Living Hope OPC in Allentown, PA, and spent a month of her summer serving at the Boardwalk Chapel as a junior staffer.
Connecting Apologetics and Evangelism
Daniel Nannini, member of Faith OPC in Long Beach, CA, served the Boardwalk Chapel this summer as the drama coordinator. In this role, Daniel organizes other staff and volunteer groups to put on gospel-themed skits in the nightly programs.
More Confident in the Gospel
Emily Batten is a member of Living Hope OPC in Allentown, PA, and spent a month of her summer serving at the Boardwalk Chapel as a junior staffer.
Forced to Pray on the Boardwalk
On a typical night at the Boardwalk Chapel in Wildwood, New Jersey, groups of red-shirted staff along with members of my church spread out over the boardwalk offering to share the good news with anyone who will stop.
An Evangelistic Community
Isabelle Ferguson, member of Grace OPC in Westfield, NJ and a former volunteer at the Boardwalk Chapel, has returned this year to serve as a Junior Staffer.
The Boardwalk Chapel
On June 24, the Boardwalk Chapel raised the iconic garage-style door to open the 2024 season, now in its 79th year of evangelizing in Wildwood, NJ, with cheers and excitement from the summer staff and Harvest OPC, Wyoming, MI volunteers.
Prayer for Short-Term Missions
OPC Short-Term Missions Summer 2024 is underway! Here are some specific ways that you can pray for our teams:
An Infectious Spirit and a Culture of Prayer
Hannah Foster, member of New Hope OPC (Frederick, MD), was, in one sense, nervous leading up to her trip to the Boardwalk Chapel.
“I’ll Be Taking It Back Home”: A Boardwalk Chapel Testimonial
“I’ll be taking this training back home to unbelieving family members, friends, or coworkers. It’s not just applicable here on the boardwalk.” Landri Shope of Shiloh OPC in Raleigh, NC, left the Boardwalk Chapel not only feeling more equipped to share the gospel with strangers, but with all unbelievers in her life. She continues, “Where I live, most of the people know the Gospel. They’ve heard it before, they’re just more apathetic towards it. It is really important that they genuinely believe it. The self-examination questions we learned here are exactly what I need to get a conversation started.”
2023 Short-Term Missions Mid-Summer Update
So far this summer, one Short-Term Missions team has traveled to St. Georges, Quebec to serve the local children at the St. Georges English for Kids Camp and six teams have served at the Boardwalk Chapel in Wildwood, NJ. Here's what they have to say about serving the Lord, reaching out to the lost, and spending a part of their summer on mission!
Ready to Share a Powerful Gospel
One helpful aspect of the School of Evangelism is that the teaching is accompanied by daily evangelism. This past week at the Boardwalk Chapel we saw guests and staff for the summer assemble, digging into the Word, studying evangelism in the theoretical and the practical. Some who came are experienced evangelists, and others are novices.
The Boardwalk Chapel: Teaching through Reaching
As each summer day comes to its end in Wildwood, New Jersey, the sun fades and is almost seamlessly replaced by twinkling fluorescent bulbs all along the boardwalk. Running the length of Wildwood beach, the boardwalk attracts vacationers with two-and-a-half miles of enticingly aromatic food, boisterous music, carnival games, and intriguing storefronts. Stepping out on the boardwalk ushers a tidal wave of sensational entertainment upon its entrant. Yet, situated in the midst of it all lies one storefront that does not fit in with the rest. Above its awning, a light shines on a simple sign that reads “Boardwalk Chapel”.
